The Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) recently unveiled the recipients of its October 2019 Insights Grant competition where they awarded $91 million in funding to more than 1,253 researchers from 60 different Canadian institutions. Among the recipients are 38 McGill-led projects, totalling $17.8 million.
The Insight Grants support research excellence in the social sciences and humanities. Funding is available to both emerging and established scholars for research initiatives of two to five years. Stable support for long-term research initiatives is central to advancing knowledge. It enables scholars to address complex issues about individuals and societies, and to further our collective understanding.
The grants offer a funding boost to social sciences and humanities researchers at McGill to investigate a wide range of topics related to individuals and society, from studying the role of social technologies in online review platforms to interpreting children’s music by Robert Schumann.
Among McGill’s 38 Insight Grant recipients, Allison Christians, Full Professor and Associate Dean of Research at the Faculty of Law, will use a $400,000 grant to further her research on designing a sustainable global tax system.
