Transmission: from experiments to modeling
Lydia Bourouiba
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Transmission of pathogens from infected to non-infected members of a populationÌý shape the outcome of an epidemic.ÌýDespite major efforts aimed at the mitigation of infectious diseases, the fundamental mechanisms of host-to-host pathogen transmission remain poorly understood for most infectious diseases. Drawing upon clinical data, controlled experiments, and mathematical modeling, I will discuss the dynamics ofÌý transmission of various pathogens through the lens of fundamental fluid dynamics, in a range of public health and food safety systems.Ìý
