Biography:
Dr Groleau is professor in the department of psychiatry and senior investigator at the Jewish General Hospital. Dr Groleau is a medical anthropologist and received her PhD in Public Health from the Université de Montréal and postdoctoral degree in Transcultural Psychiatry at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ. Her specialty is in qualitative research methodologies, implementation science and social determinants of health in sexual and reproductive health of women that have implications for public health programming, service delivery and health policy. Her current research interests are:
- social and cultural determinants of reproductive health: breastfeeding & postnatal depression, experience of female genital mutilation (FGM/C), medicalization of FGM/C, obstetric fistula in Africa, involuntary sterilisation in Canada.
- qualitative methodologies & implementation science using qualitative methods to guide health policy, health services and prevention strategies.
Dr Groleau can supervise trainees and graduate students from psychiatry, family medicine, social sciences, humanities, public health and medicine.
