Obituary: Dr. Herta Guttman (12/01/1933 - 05/15/2018)
Dear colleagues and friends,
It is with much sadness that we learned of the passing of our esteemed colleague Dr. Herta Guttman (Professor Emerita, Department of Psychiatry), who passed away at age 84. Â
Beloved wife for 64 years of Dr. Frank Guttman, sister of Greta Hofmann Nemiroff, mother of Miriam Laurence and Naomi Guttman and their husbands, Laurence Gilman and Jonathan Mead, grandmother of Rachel and Ezra Mead and Caleb and Lilah Gilman, she leaves behind many dear in-laws, nieces and nephews, friends and colleagues. A graduate of Ï㽶ÊÓƵ (BA Honours Psychology) in 1953 and M.D. of University of Geneva, 1958, Herta had a long career in research and clinical psychiatry. She was a pioneer in family therapy and for many years director of family therapy training at the Jewish General Hospital as well as director of consultation services. Subsequently, she became the first woman director of the Allan Memorial Hospital. A future memorial service will be announced. Contributions in her name may be made to Polio Quebec or the charity of your choice (with excerpts from The Gazette).
On behalf of our Department, I offer my most heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.
Sincerely,
Gustavo
