Message from Normand Rinfret, Director General and CEO

It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Dr. Nadia Szkrumelak to the position of Chief of the Department of Psychiatry.

Dr. Szkrumelak is a graduate of Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, and has been a member of the Department of Psychiatry at the MUHC since 1984. She has held many leadership roles in the Department including Director of Emergency Psychiatry at the RVH from 1986-2003, Director of External Psychiatry Services from 2006 to present and Associate Psychiatrist-in-Chief of the Mental Health Mission since 2008. In this latter position, she has been instrumental in the re-organization of mental health services at the MUHC in the context of the provincial mental health restructuring program. She is a past member of the Board of Examiners for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons and a current member of the Canadian Society of Physician Executives.

Dr. Szkrumelak brings countless hours of clinical, teaching and administrative experience to her new role. She will assume the leadership of the Mental Health Mission as the MUHC moves forward in one of the most exciting yet challenging times in its history. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Szkrumelak to her new position.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Warren Steiner, who has led the Mental Health Mission and the MUHC Department of Psychiatry over the past 9 years with dedication and professionalism. Under his leadership, the department has undergone major changes in the contexts of both the Plan d’action en santé mentale and the Clinical Activities Priority Setting (CAPS) exercise. Dr Steiner’s leadership was instrumental in achieving the goals of both these major strategic efforts. His colleagues and the leadership are highly appreciative of his many, many contributions.
