Published: 19 January 2022

Dear Colleagues,

The MUHC has recently announced the appointment of Dr. Karine Igartua as the new Psychiatrist-in-Chief and Medical co-lead of the MUHC Mental Health Mission. Dr. Igartua will be replacing Dr. Nadia Szkrumelak and her four year mandate begins on January 1, 2022.

Dr. Igartua joined the McGill Department of Psychiatry as Faculty Lecturer in 2000 after completing both her Residency and Fellowship at McGill. She was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2002 and then to the rank of Associate Professor in 2014. She is an accomplished clinician and brings experience in evidence-based clinical care, expert clinical teaching and supervision, and leadership skills acquired over the years in the Quebec network and FMSQ. We are very much looking forward to working with her in this new capacity.

We would also like to take this opportunity to express our deepest appreciation to Dr. Szkrumelak for her two mandates as MUHC Chief and for her expert leadership and dedication over the years.

Please join us in wishing Dr. Igartua success in her new role.

Sincerely,

Gustavo Turecki

Chair, Department of Psychiatry
