This is an exciting event and we have pointed out a few of the highlights. The brochure is attached - and you will see that there is quite a variety of topics.
Gabor Mate will present October 18th at 9:00-10:00 am, Ballroom A: "The Hungry Ghost: A Biopsychosocial Perspective on Addiction, from Heroin to Workaholism."
Note that there will be a presentation from the Recovery Transition Program (RTP) on October 18th, 1:30-3:00 pm, in Ballroom A. "The Recovery Transition Program: An innovative recovery-oriented, peer-based mentoring program in addiction services." Don't miss that event since it is a homegrown program that originated in the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Health Centre (MUHC). Presenters will include patients from the MUHC.
Also, there will be a very interesting play and discussion on Alcoholics Anonymous on the evening of the 18th. From 6:30-8:30 pm, Ballroom A - Bill W. and Dr. Bob - Play Reading & Panel Discussion. Panel - Dr. Kathryn Gill, Dr. Gerald Wiviott, Member of a 12-Step Program. "One of the most profound and effective social movements of the 20th century came out of a meeting between two alcoholics in Akron Ohio in 1935. The play, written by Stephen Bergman (of House of God fame) and Janet Surrey, recreates the meeting of investment consultant, Bill W., and physician/surgeon Dr. Bob that led to the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous. The play reading will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Tom Hutchinson that will explore its implications for healthcare."
