Abstract: In today’s seminar I will be discussing the Recovery Education Centre (REC) model and background. I will be introducing St-Michaels Hospital's STAR LC, which is Canada's first REC and its evolution over the past several years.

I will also discuss how content at STAR is developed and disseminated using this model and discuss some of the current course offerings and future program developments

Bio: Brian Nichol – Team Leader, STAR Learning Centre & Withdrawal Management Services, St. Michael’s Hospital. After overcoming his own struggles with homelessness and addiction, Brian has focused his work on supporting marginalized and disadvantaged populations for the past decade. Brian has a Master’s of Science in Community Health from the University of Toronto, specializing in mental health and addiction. Brian is passionate about developing and delivering holistic and positive supports that capitalize on each individual’s resiliency and ability to overcome obstacles.
