The Child Psychiatry Research Committee is sponsoring a Child Psychiatry Research Seminar. This seminar is open to all staff and students. The seminar will be informal and encourage active audience participation and discussion.
Presenter:
Dr. Eszter Szekely is a psychologist, neuroscientist, epidemiologist, and couple and family therapist with international research experience from Hungary, the Netherlands, the USA, and Canada. She is an Assistant Professor in Psychiatry at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ and Investigator at the Jewish General Hospital in Child Psychiatry. She is also an FRQS Junior 1 Research Scholar, and recipient of the Future Leader's in Canadian Brain Research Award as well as the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation's Young Investigator award. Dr. Szekely directs the Perinatal Multisite Databank of patients who have received psychiatric services during the perinatal period in the province of Quebec and is co-Editor of the book Prenatal Stress and Child Development (2021). Her work focuses on early-life predictors of child psychopathology, with a special interest in ADHD and brain development.
Learning Objectives:
1. Appreciate the importance of data harmonization efforts in ADHD research and getting familiar with one such effort (i.e., the DREAM BIG research consortium)
2. Understand the complex interplay between prenatal adversity, genetic liability, and sex in the emergence of ADHD symptomatology in childhood
3. Examine whether prenatal adversity, genetic liability, and sex effects also interact to alter the development of brain structures implicated in ADHD
