Appointment of Professor Angela Campbell as Interim Deputy Provost (Student Life and Learning)

Dear members of the McGill community,

This morning the appointment of Professor Fabrice Labeau as next Vice-President (Administration and Finance) was announced. I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to Prof. Labeau; I am convinced that he is uniquely positioned to fulfill this mandate successfully. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude for his extensive contributions as Deputy Provost (Student Life and Learning).

It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Professor Angela Campbell as Interim Deputy Provost (Student Life and Learning). Professor Campbell's term of office will begin on June 1st, 2024 and will continue until the appointment of a new Deputy Provost (SLL).

Prof. Campbell joined McGill in 2003 and is currently Full Professor in the Faculty of Law. She has been serving as Associate Provost (Equity and Academic Policies) since 2015. Her accomplishments in that role are too numerous to list, but I would like to highlight her role leading the development of McGill’s EDI Strategic Plan, Anti-Black Racism Action Plan, and the Provost Task Force on Indigenous Studies and Indigenous Education. More recently, along with Prof. Labeau, she has led the 2022 Initiative against Islamophobia and Antisemitism and continues to work with our communities in these challenging times. She has developed an extensive program for faculty engagement and mentorship to ensure our University feels welcoming and accessible despite its size and complexity. Throughout her mandate, she has demonstrated that excellence and equity are mutually fulfilling goals and represented collegial governance at its best.

I would like to thank Prof. Campbell for agreeing to take on this new responsibility.

In accordance with University Statutes, the Secretary-General will establish an Advisory Committee for the selection of a new Deputy Provost (Student Life and Learning). Information regarding the position, and the nomination and application processes, will be forthcoming.

I look forward to announcing an acting appointment for the Associate Provost (Equity and Academic Policies) position in due course.

Ìý

Sincerely,

Christopher Manfredi

Provost and Executive Vice-President (Academic)
