Upcoming change to Vice-Principal (Administration and Finance)

Dear members of the McGill community,

It is with regret that I announce that Yves Beauchamp, Vice-Principal (Administration and Finance), will leave McGill this summer to take up a prestigious leadership position at another organization. Details of his new appointment will be announced in the coming months.

Since his arrival at McGill in early 2017, Vice-Principal Beauchamp has had an enormous positive impact on the University, making his mark across all aspects of his broad and diverse portfolio.

Under his leadership, his team accelerated the revitalization and renewal of McGill’s buildings and physical infrastructure, as well as the protection and preservation of its abundant green spaces. Vice-Principal Beauchamp spearheaded the development of the University’s Campus Master Plan and accompanying financial plan to guide the evolution of our campuses to support teaching, learning, research and student life.

Drawing on his experience as the Vice-Rector responsible for Campus MIL at Université de Montréal, he advanced infrastructure development for several landmark initiatives, including the New Vic Project and the Fiat Lux Library Project, which will provide flexible, modern spaces to support McGill’s 21st-century academic vision. In particular, his keen sense of strategy and his invaluable expertise were indispensable in moving the New Vic Project forward through the government approval process and in helping to garner $620 million to revitalize, in partnership with the Government of Québec, this historic Montréal site.

Vice-Principal Beauchamp significantly improved McGill’s capacity to strengthen and modernize its digital infrastructure to support the full spectrum of academic and administrative activities at the University. He championed McGill’s bold sustainability efforts, ensuring that we are on track to achieve the ambitious goals set out in our Climate and Sustainability Strategy. Recognizing the changing landscape of work, he and his team launched the creation of initiatives to prepare McGill employees for a forward-looking hybrid work environment.

Previous to his tenure at McGill and the Université de Montréal, he served two terms as Director General of École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS). Vice-Principal Beauchamp’s numerous honours include being appointed a Member of the Order of Canada and a Knight of the National Order of Québec. He also served as the President of the Canadian Academy of Engineering from 2020 to 2022.

Although I have had the honour of working with Vice-Principal Beauchamp for only a short period, I will miss him as a colleague and wish him continued success when he takes up his new position. I know that his wealth of experience and expertise will serve both him and his new organization well in the coming years.

In accordance with University Statutes, I have advised the Secretary-General of the need to establish an Advisory Committee for the selection of a new Vice-Principal (Administration and Finance). Information regarding the position, and the nomination and application processes, will be forthcoming.

Ěý

Sincerely,

Ěý

Deep Saini

Principal and Vice-Chancellor
