Plurilingual Lab Speaker Series with Dr. Åsta Haukås

You're kindly invited to our next virtual Plurilingual Lab Speaker Series event with Dr. Åsta Haukås of the University of Bergen, Norway.

Exploring plurilingual pedagogies in Scandinavia: What do we know and where do we go from here?

All people living in Scandinavia are plurilingual. They may not necessarily identify as such themselves, however, and some groups of people are more often regarded as plurilingual than others. In this talk, I first present recent research on beliefs about and approaches to plurilingual education in the Scandinavian context. Second, I argue that there is a mismatch between researchers’ increasing interest in the phenomenon and the actual implementation of plurilingual approaches in education. Third, I point towards various initiatives to address this mismatch and suggest ways to move our field forward. Among other things, I present the freely available Ungspråk questionnaire, that can be used to explore students plurilingualism and plurilingual identities, and the MULTIWRITE project, exploring language teacher collaboration in and across language subjects in school.
