John Augustus Larson was the inventor of the modern polygraph. Although, some list the polygraph as one of the greatest inventions, many scientists consider it to be pseudoscience. Â Yet, many countries continue to use the polygraph test as an interrogation test on suspects and for screening new employees. However, many people can beat the old-fashioned polygraph test. For example, when the interrogation commences, the subject can artificially increase their heart rate during the control questions. In general, many anti-hypertensives and anti-anxiety medications alter the heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure of the individual, thus leading to inconclusive results. Â Due to its vulnerabilities, new devices are being developed to replace the old fashioned lie detector test.
