Vancouver Sun - Eclipse of prairie grain elevator fascinates Montreal technology researcher
Published: 25 January 2012
Grain elevators abandoned in various stages of disrepair are a familiar site on the prairie skyline. While attempts have been made to save some of the landmarks, the majority have been demolished, replaced by centralized grain terminals. Now, one Montreal researcher is working to find out how ripping down those pieces of history changed not just the skylines, but the social fabric of Prairie communities.
Darin Barney is the Canada Research chair in technology and citizenship at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ in Montreal. But his family is from Saskatchewan and, as a child, he spent most of his summers on the Prairies.
