Leader Post - Milatz lives for music

Published: 9 June 2011

Someone once said music is what feelings sound like. When 17-year-old Meagan Milatz sits down at a piano, she's communicating joy.

"I think classical music brings joy to people in ways that other things can't," says Milatz, who started taking piano lessons when she was five years old, and never stopped.

An already accomplished pianist, Milatz is preparing for a very important performance. During her recital at St. Cecilia Church (5020 7th Ave.) at 3 p.m. on Sunday, she'll be showcasing her repertoire for the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers' Associations (CFMTA) National Piano Competition.

Milatz was chosen as the Saskatchewan representative for the upcoming competition. She's competed - and won big - in many national and international competitions, held in places like Moncton, Montreal and Ohio. But competing in the CFMTA National Piano Competition means the Weyburn-area resident will be playing in her home province, as the event will be held in Regina this year. …

The soon-to-be high school graduate is also preparing for the next stage of her life. She'll be starting at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ in the fall, taking a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance.
