Globe and Mail - Wainberg among 5 Killam Prize winners

Mark Wainberg has spent his career fighting HIV/AIDS, and is credited with developing the valuable antiretroviral drug 3TC to fight the disease. He is one of five Killam winners announced Tuesday morning.
The life’s work of the five Killam Prize winners is wide-ranging to say the least, from drug advances combatting HIV/AIDS to the philosophy of interpretation. The lucrative awards from the Canada Council for the Arts are among Canada’s most prestigious for researchers in humanities, engineering and various sciences, rewarding each with $100,000 for their outstanding achievement.
The four other winners are Jean Grondin, U de M; Geoffrey Hinton, U of T; John Whalley, UWO; Louis Taillefer, USherbrooke.
