CTV.ca, The Independent, et al. - Montreal band takes home Grammy honour
Montreal band Arcade Fire came away with top prize at last night's Grammy awards show awarded Top Album of the Year for "Suburbs". The band, with co-founder (McGill grad) Win Butler (BA'04), was nominated in three categories.
After the event Win introduced his group - which also features his wife, Regine Chassagne, Richard Reed Parry, William Butler, Jeremy Gara, Sarah Neufeld, Tim Kingsbury and Marika Anthony-Shaw - to the press as "The graduating class of Montreal, Canada."
Other McGill Grammy nominees included Prof. Matt Haimovitz and Uccello, Best Classical Crossover Album – Meeting of the Spirits; Darcy Argue (BMus'97) with Secret Society (incl. trombonist Mike Fahie (BMus'98), nominated for Best Large Jazz Ensemble (Infernal Machines). (Neither won in their respective category.)
