85th Acfas Annual Congress: May 8 to 12, 2017 at 㽶Ƶ
For the third time in its history, the Acfas Annual Congress, the largest multidisciplinary research event in the Francophonie, will be hosted by 㽶Ƶ.
Under the patronage of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO, the 85th Annual congress of the Association francophone pour le savoir – Acfas will welcome over 1,000researchers and graduate students from some 40 countries. The program includes no fewer than 3,400scientific papers brought together in 213seminarsand 30fields of research. All research sectors are represented: health sciences, natural sciences, mathematics and engineering, arts and humanities, social sciences and education.
“The Acfas Conference fosters interdisciplinary innovation and offers both professors and graduate students an ideal platform to present their latest discoveries. 㽶Ƶ is proud to welcome attendees, and it is a great honour for us to help them discover our city, recently named the best student city in the world, and the long tradition of innovation which is so cherished by McGill,” --Professor Suzanne Fortier, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of 㽶Ƶ.
Vers de nouveaux sommets will be the 2017 theme for this important French-language gathering of scientists and researchers. In this year of celebrations around Montreal’s 375th and Canada’s 150th anniversary, the Congress will highlight the dissemination of knowledge, acknowledging the scientific advances of the past while focusing on today’s research and discoveries and the challenges of tomorrow.
“Acfas has evolved alongside the research community and the society that makes its activities possible. Now more than ever, the dialogue between science and society is timely in meeting the challenges that our society faces and that cannot be resolved without the ideas and commitment of our researchers. This year, as always, many of the subjects addressed will help us to understand our reality, whether it be opening data, radicalization, feminist and Indigenous issues or pandemics,” --Frédéric Bouchard, President of Acfas.
For the general public, this week is a unique opportunity to meet and discuss with researchers during open general sessions, where they will present their research findings.
Acfas will also offer numerous free and entertaining activities for the general public, under the title Science-moi! These include the exhibit La preuve par l’image, a visit to the last dairy farm on the Island of Montreal, musical performances or the chance to attend the recording of the radio programs L’œuf ou la poule and Les années lumière en direct.
Participants will include the municipal sector. For the first time, the municipalities that were finalists in the Mérite Ovation municipal contest of the Union des municipalités du Québec (UMQ) will present their innovative projects during the congress.
