Professor Christopher Manfredi, Provost and Vice-Principal Academic announces the appointment of Dr.ĚýElham EmamiĚýas the nextĚýDean of the Faculty of Dentistry. Dr. Emami’s five-year, renewable term will begin on July 1, 2018, and end June 30, 2023. The Advisory Committee for the Selection of aĚýDean of the Faculty of DentistryĚýconducted an extensive, international search. TheĚýMcGillĚýUniversity Board of Governors accepted the committee’s recommendation during its meeting on February 15, 2018.
Dr. Emami is an internationally recognized clinical scientist who has dedicated her career to the promotion of oral health through service, education and research. She is currently a Full Professor, with tenure, in the UniversitĂ© de MontrĂ©al’s Department of Restorative Dentistry. She is the Director of the UniversitĂ© de MontrĂ©al’s Oral Health and Rehabilitation Research Unit. Dr. Emami is also an adjunct professor inĚýMcGill’s Faculty of Dentistry and a research associate at the Centre de recherche du Centre hospitalier de l’UniversitĂ© de MontrĂ©al (CRCHUM). Much of her multidisciplinary, practice-drivenĚýresearch is focused on three areas:Ěýprosthodontic treatments, the impact of oral health on general health, and social inequalities in rural populations.
Dr. Emami holds a PhD in biomedical science and an MSc in prosthodontic rehabilitation, both from the UniversitĂ© de MontrĂ©al. She completed postdoctoral research in public dental health and cancer epidemiology at, respectively,ĚýMcGillĚýand the CRCHUM. She earned her DDS at Tehran University.
