Professor Christopher Manfredi, Provost and Vice-Principal AcademicÌýannounces the appointment of Dr.ÌýCarola WeilÌýas the nextÌýDean of the School of Continuing Studies. Dr.ÌýWeil’s five-year, renewable term will begin on July 1, 2018, and end June 30, 2023. The Advisory Committee for the Selection of aÌýDean of the School of Continuing StudiesÌýconducted an extensive, international search. TheÌýMcGillÌýUniversity Board of Governors accepted the committee’s recommendation during its meeting on February 15, 2018.
Dr. Weil brings a wealth of experience and expertise in academic management, administration and leadership. Since 2012, she has served as the inaugural Dean of the School of Professional and Extended Studies at American University, where she is a professorial lecturer in the School of International Service. In her capacity as Dean, she oversees the delivery of life-long experiential learning programs at all levels, from pre-collegiate to post-retirement.
Dr. Weil earned a PhD in political science an MA and an MPM, from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a BA in history from Bryn Mawr College.Ìý Prior to joining American University, she served as Associate Dean for Planning and Strategic Initiatives at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. She has held teaching and research appointments in international relations and public diplomacy at George Washington University, Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and the University of Southern California. She has also served in senior positions at the Friedrich-Ebert Foundation and the U.S. Institute of Peace, both in Washington, D.C.
