Current research:
My research focuses on the tonal syntax of Late-Romantic music, especially the neglected early 20th century Swedish composers Ture Rangström (1884–1947) and Kurt Atterberg (1887–1974). Their works, though beautiful, are often perplexing to the theorist: they sound tonal, yet textbook tonal progressions are scarce. If conventional analytical tools are inadequate in such extended tonal repertoires, how should theorists understand such music? This is the question that I aim to answer.
