The Milton Quartet wins the Gold Medal & Grand Prize at the 2017 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.
The Milton String Quartet, composed of Schulich School of Music students Roman Fraser, Maithéna Gireault, Evan Robinson and Joshua Morris, has won the Grand Prize and Senior String Division Gold Medal at the 44th Annual Fischoff Competition at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.Â
The Fischoff Competition is the largest chamber music competition of its kind in the world. Each year, an average of 125 ensembles, representing 22 nationalities, enter the competition. The Milton Quartet receives $10,000 for the Grand Prize win and a further $3,500 for winning the Senior String Division.
Following in the footsteps of the Lloyd Carr-Harris Quartet, winner in 2005, the Milton Quartet studies under the tutelage of Prof. André J. Roy. Prof. Roy directs the McGill International String Quartet Academy (MISQA), created in 2010 to bring world-renowned professors to Montreal each summer to teach and share their experience with exceptional young string quartets from different countries.
The Montreal community will have an opportunity to hear the Milton Quartet in concert in August, at the 2017 edition of .
