Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship - call for nominations (due May 17, 2016)
The Schulich School of Music is conducting an internal competition to select its candidate for the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship competition.
The deadline to submit applications for institutional review is May 17, 2016.
Eligible candidates must demonstrate potential to pursue a research-intensive career in an area aligned with research interests at the Schulich School of Music and with the strategic priorities of Ï㽶ÊÓƵ. Candidates must have fulfilled all requirements for a PhD or PhD-equivalent degree:
- between September 21, 2013 and September 30, 2017 (inclusively) and
- before the start date of the award.
About the Banting fellowships
The 70k renewable Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships are designed to attract and retain top-tier postdoctoral talent, from Canada and abroad, who will positively contribute to Canada's economic, social and research-based growth. 70 fellowships are distributed each year.
Recent Schulich School of Music postdoctoral recipients include:
- Karen Desmond, 2014-2016. Research focus:Â The intellectual and aesthetic experience of music in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries.
- Massimiliano Guido, 2012-2014. Research focus: The art of memory at the keyboard as a tool for teaching counterpoint.

Pre-selection application requirements (Schulich School of Music)
Required documents for pre-selection:
- Applicant’s CV
- One-page abstract from the applicant
- One-page endorsement from the Supervisor
The documents must answer, in three different paragraphs: Why now? Why this supervisor? Why McGill?
Submit all documents in PDF format to the Music Graduate Studies Office (graduatestudies.music [at] mcgill.ca).
The Banting application process
The Schulich School of Music an select only one application to forward to the national competition.Â
The chosen nominee will be expected to:
- Participate in the McGill writing workshop (select dates between June 1, 2016 to July 15, 2016). Skype participation is possible.
- Start completing the application on ResearchNet and submit a PDF application to the Schulich School of Music for review between July 15-August 15, 2016. The GPS will provide feedback and an institutional letter of recommendation for the applicant (August 15-September 15, 2016).
- Upload the institutional letter to the application and submit on ResearchNet by September 21, 2016.
Results will be announced on February 4, 2017.
