Instructor

The 4-day workshop will be taught by: Lloyd Bartlett P.Eng, MBA, PMP.

Lloyd Bartlett, is a senior project manager, consultant and trainer. He has over 30 years experience in successfully managing a wide variety of projects, on both a national and international scale. These projects have included both ‘hard delivery’ such as engineering works and ‘soft delivery’ initiatives such as studies and standards development.ÌýÌý The common thread underpinning the success of his approach is the focus on objectives and stakeholder commitment to those objectives.

Academic and Professional Training

Mr. Bartlett holds an MBA (specialization in Project Management) from Queen’s University. He is a member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec since 1976, and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) since 1998.
In 2008, Mr. Bartlett was presented by the McGill Centre for Continuing Studies with a ‘Distinguished Teaching Award’ for his teaching of Project Management.Ìý In 2012, he received from Project Management Institute Montreal the ‘Prix Elixir’ for contribution to project management.
Mr. Bartlett currently serves as coach and consultant to numerous organizations applying project management to improve their business results.Ìý Areas of particular focus include:

  • ‘Scalable’ project tracking systems to maximize our time investment
  • Project initiation and ‘kick-off’
  • Planning tools and facilitation
  • Team development and communications

Participants should expect the workshop to familiarize them with Project Management (PM) precepts and help them to develop an understanding of the Project Management principles.

Course overview

This course is designed to prepare students to be able to organise and lead a project to successful completion.ÌýÌý This skill, as much as technical expertise, is being sought and valued more and more in today’s business and research environments.
This is a hands-on course, focusing not only on what project management is, but on how to apply proven tools and techniques to make project management work.


Students completing this course will be able to:

  • Apply a basic framework for managing virtually any type of project
  • Understand basic principles supporting this framework, as reflected within the worldwide standard Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide) – Fifth Edition
  • Develop a project plan which will guide the project to completion
  • Evaluate a project and its environment, identify underlying issues, and recommend corrective action.
  • Interpret and manage inherent trade-offs between time, costs, scope and resources.
  • Articulate the key role, responsibilities and skills required of effective project managers and of productive team members.
  • Apply techniques for building and leading effective project teams.

Day 3: Monitoring progress

  • Clarifying roles and responsibilities through ‘RACI Chart’
