Seminar: Dr. Natalya Gomez
Dr. Natayla Gomez joins us from the department of Earth and Planetary Sciences for her seminar "Sea Level - Ice Sheet - Solid Earth Interactions". All are invited. Refreshments will be served.
Abstract
This talk will focus on the physics of static sea-level changes, glacial isostatic adjustment and solid Earth deformation following variations in the distribution of grounded ice, and the influence of these changes on the stability and dynamics of marine ice sheets. Following a review of ice sheet - sea level - solid earth interactions using simplified modeling, recent results will be presented using a more realistic 3-D ice sheet - shelf model coupled to a gravitationally self-consistent global sea-level model that includes viscoelastic deformation of the Earth. This coupled model will be applied to simulate the evolution of the Antarctic Ice Sheet through the last deglaciation and into the future.
