Simulation on a Social Mission Virtual Reality (VR) Festival
SPECIAL STUDENT EVENT
The application of virtual reality (VR) in health professions education, both for teaching technical skills and for broader clinicalÌýdecision-making, has been a topic of discussion. A less known but emerging area of interest is the use of VR as aÌýmedium to witness, or be in the first-person perspective of, a social challenge through immersive storytelling.
Although the use of VR in cognitive and behavioural sciences has been active for decades, increased mainstreamÌýattention is now arising on whether VR can raise awareness and improve education on social issues in healthÌýprofessions education.
The Steinberg Centre for Simulation and Interactive Learning (SCSIL) is inviting interested McGill Faculty ofÌýMedicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) students to register to view curated VR experiences centered on such issuesÌýas racism, Indigenous health, and homelessness, to name a few.
You will then be invited to provide a brief audioÌýmessage with your feedback on: 1) your general impressions on the experiences viewed, and 2) whether youÌýbelieve this may contribute to health professions education.
This special event entitled Simulation on a Social Mission Virtual Reality Festival will take place the week of June 12 (see dates and times below).
Interested participants can self-register for a one-hour timeslot on the dates below using this .ÌýÌý
