Fall Policy Dialogue & MPP Reunion

Tuesday, October 25, 2022 17:00to21:00
Faculty Club 3450 rue McTavish, Montreal, QC, H3A 0E5, CA

Join us in Montreal as we usher in a new academic year, welcome back our MPP alumni to campus, and celebrate our graduates the night before McGill Fall Convocation. A lively policy discussion will be followed by a reunion reception where we can meet new friends and renew relationships.

Is the U.S. Political Landscape Blowing Up? How Will Canada Be Affected?

Many commentators argue that we are witnessing the beginnings of long-term decline of the American empire, and that whatever political ailments exist there will inevitably cross the 49th parallel. Others argue that ebbs and flows in the political tides are always occurring, and that there is little reason to fear the current rough waters. Some Canadians believe that our unique temperament and institutions will insulate us from the worst political impulses coming out of the United States, so our political future need not be tied to theirs. How should we think about what we are observing today in these two political arenas?

Hosted by the Max Bell School of Public Policy and the McGill Alumni Public Policy Society (MAPPS), our expert panelists will explore what is going on politically in both Canada and the U.S., and implications for the future.

Our panelists are:

  • , American author, journalist, Washington bureau chief for The New York Times
  • , Principal, Earnscliffe Strategies
  • , journalist, political commentator, co-founder of The Line
  • , Vice President for Publications and Communications, Peterson Institute for International Economics

MODERATOR: Ruhee Ismail-Teja, MPP '20, Director, Policy and Communications at Calgary Chamber of Commerce

Cocktail service of canapés and drinks to be served after panel event.
