PRINCIPAL EXAMINERS:

Topic 1: Fundamental results on Sobolev spaces and Elliptic PDE. Material will be pulled from Chapters 7 and 8 of Gilbarg and Trudinger's book: Elliptic Partial Differential Equations of Second Order (Second Edition).

Prof. Jerome Vetois

Topic 2: Compactness principles and existence results for a class of semilinear PDE with critical nonlinearites. This will include concentration compactness principles, variational methods, and certain minimization approaches. Material will be pulled from Struwe's book: Varitaional Methods (Applications to Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations and Hamiltonian Systems). Relevant sections are Chapter I sections 4.4 to 4.11 (pages 42-51) and Chapter III sections 1, 2 up to 2.4 (pages 169-180) and 3 (pages 183-194)
