Countability, the Axiom of Choice, and Riddles:

Ìý

In this talk, I will start by going through the notion of countability and uncountability, and proceed by constructing the reals via Dedekind cuts (a topic which is unfortunately skipped over in most undergraduate analysis courses). I will then move on to the Axiom of Choice, and demonstrate its "weirdness" by using it to solve a few difficult riddles, which seem impossible at first glance.Ìý

All graduate students are invited. As with all talks in the graduate student seminar, this talk will be accessible to all graduate students in math and stats.

We will also be continuing to serve pizza.
