Title: 2021-Epidemiology
Abstract: Ongoing and planned phase 3 trials of candidate COVID-19 vaccines have provided evidence of high efficacy against COVID-19 disease but are not designed to evaluate the ability of vaccines to reduce population transmission, through blocking infection and/or reducing infectiousness. This talk will overview what is and is not known about vaccine effects on transmission, motivate research on this question, and outline a proposed approach to evaluating the effect of a vaccine on transmission, highlighting key statistical challenges.
