Professor Emerita receives Fulbright Specialist Grant
Professor Emerita Harriet Kuhnlein (School of Human Nutrition) received a 2017 Fulbright Specialist Grant that was undertaken with Massey University in Wellington, New Zealand. The award was in the category of Public/Global Health for a term of 5 weeks during February and March, 2017. The grant was administered through the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, United States Department of State with the cooperation of World Learning.Â
The scope of the award was to develop a collaborative approach for documenting Indigenous Peoples’ food systems and related health circumstances in New Zealand and Pasifica; capacity building of faculty, students and staff; and building linkages for future collaboration. Lectures and interactions took place on the Massey campuses in Wellington, Palmerston North, and Albany/Auckland, and the Council on International Development in Wellington. Discussions were also held with staff of the Plant and Food laboratories in Palmerston North who are responsible for maintaining the data base on nutrient levels in New Zealand foods, including Maori traditional foods. The primary collaborator is Dr. Barbara Burlingame of the School of Public Health, Massey University, Wellington.
