Sustainably managing ecosystem services across landscapes

Online seminar: Environmental Biology Seminar Series (NRS) - Dr. Marie Dade, Postdoctoral Research Fellow; Ï㽶ÊÓƵ

Demand for ecosystem services–the physical and mental well-being benefits we receive from ecosystems–is growing rapidly with increases in population and wealth, and unmitigated exploitation of these ecosystem services could lead to the eventual collapse of ecosystems and deteriorations in human health. To prevent this occurring, it is crucial that we design and manage landscapes that ensure ecosystem services are delivered while maintaining environmental, economic and human health–a concept referred to as landscape sustainability. Dr. Marie Dade’s research revolves around this concept of landscape sustainability, with a particular focus on improving our understanding of the nature of ecosystem services. In this talk, Dr. Dade will provide an overview of her research on how understanding the mechanisms and drivers that underpin the delivery of ecosystem services can be used to improve human, societal and environmental health across landscapes, using examples from a range of landscapes.

The seminar will take place from 10:30-11:30 AM EST online on Zoom; a discussion will follow from 2:00-3:00 PM EST.
