Lecture | Shakespeare's Voice with Professor David Schalkwyk
One of the leading Shakespeareans in the world, David Schalkwyk is equally at home in poetry, philosophy, theory, and theatre. Among his many publications are the books, Literature and the Touch of the Real, Speech and Performance in Shakespeare’s Sonnets and Plays, and Shakespeare, Love and Service. His 2013 book, Hamlet’s Dreams: The Robben Island Shakespeare, tells the story of how Nelson Mandela and his fellow prisoners on Robben Island shared, read, and annotated a Shakespeare Complete Works that circulated surreptitiously among them. His latest book, published in 2018 by Cambridge, is Shakespeare, Love and Language.
Professor Schalkwyk is Professor of Shakespeare Studies at Queen Mary University of London.
The lecture is sponsored by the Lang Family.
