Exhibit | Enterprises of the Human Spirit: 50 Years of Scientific Excellence in Germany and Canada
Defining Moments Canada/Moments Déterminants Canada (DMC), a heritage education organization, with the support of the German Embassy, has partnered with the University of Saskatchewan to present the travelling exhibition Enterprises of the Human Spirit: 50 Years of Scientific Excellence in Germany and Canada. The exhibition is touring across Canada from March 2022 to early 2023 with dates at several Canadian universities and institutions. The opportunity to see the exhibition on display at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ’s McLennan-Redpath Library Complex (3945 McTavish Street, main floor, reading room) is from May 24 to June 3, 2022, open from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. each day including weekends.
Celebrating 50 years of German-Canadian collaboration in scientific and technological research and Gerhard Herzberg’s Nobel Prize win, this exhibition highlights the scientific excellence seen in joint projects in the fields of health and medicine, physics, climate sciences, and green energy. The theme of collaboration is apparent throughout the many stories told in the exhibition, starting with Herzberg’s story, and again in the history and legacy of the German-Canadian Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement.
Gerhard Herzberg believed that in the quest for new knowledge Canada must build international scientific collaborations. At Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, research partnerships with Germany’s Max Planck Society, the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres, the Jülich Research Centre, and the Technical University of Munich bring together researchers with diverse scientific backgrounds and perspectives to solve complex problems.
Defining Moments Canada is offering additional resources and educational material to educators and students through the digital Herzberg50 and NobelCanadian projects, which can be explored at the A more in-depth of Herzberg’s life is available as an interactive Story map, as well as interviews with some of Herzberg’s former research fellows.
