Professor Mark Walters appointed Dean of Queen’s University Faculty of Law
It is with mixed feelings of sadness and pride that the Faculty of Law announces that Professor Mark Walters will be leaving Ď㽶ĘÓƵ to take up the role of dean at Queen’s University’s Faculty of Law on July 1, 2019.
Professor Walters was appointed F.R. Scott Professor of Public and Constitutional Law at Ď㽶ĘÓƵ on July 1, 2016. He was previously a full professor at Queen’s University, where he began teaching law in 1999. He researches and publishes in the areas of public and constitutional law, legal history, and legal theory, with a special emphasis on the rights of Indigenous peoples, institutional structures, and the history of legal ideas. Over his time at McGill, Professor Walters notably contributed to making a greater place for Indigenous legal traditions in the Faculty’s curriculum, particularly through his involvement in the Curriculum Committee. He is completing a book on the constitutional thought of Albert Venn Dicey, under contract with Cambridge University Press.
“We are sorry that Professor Walters’ time with us has been so short, but grateful for his contributions to the McGill Law community,” said Dean Robert Leckey. “Queen’s is lucky to be getting him back and we wish him great success in this new role.”
