Prestigious chairs renewed for two colleagues
The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce the reappointment of Professor Allison Christians as holder of the H. Heward Stikeman Chair in Taxation Law, and Professor Marie Manikis as William Dawson Scholar. Their appointments have been renewed for seven and five years, respectively.
A full professor, Allison Christians has held the Stikeman Chair in Tax Law at McGill since 2012. She previously taught at the University of Wisconsin Law School and Northwestern University School of Law. Her research and teaching focus on national and international tax law and policy issues, with emphasis on the relationship between taxation and economic development, as well as on the role of government and non-government institutions and actors in the creation of tax policy norms. Before entering academia, Professor Christians practiced tax law at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, and at Debevoise & Plimpton in New York.
Marie Manikis is an associate professor at the Faculty of Law of 㽶Ƶ, where she has taught criminal law since 2013. Her comparative and interdisciplinary scholarship uses social science methodologies to advance the available knowledge in criminal law and criminal justice. She is a research associate at the Centre for Criminology, Faculty of Law (University of Oxford) and an adviser for the Sentencing Academy (England and Wales). Professor Manikis was named a William Dawson Scholar in 2019. Bestowed by McGill, this award recognizes a scholar developing into an outstanding and original researcher who is poised to become a leader in their field.
