Published: 1 June 2018

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor François Crépeau, holder of the Hans & Tamar Oppenheimer Chair in Public International Law, has been reappointed as Director of the Center for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism (CHRLP) for a two-year term, effective August 1, 2018.

Professor Crépeau’s research focuses on migration control mechanisms, the rights of foreigners, the conceptualization of security as it applies to migrants, and the rule of law in the face of globalization. He was the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants from 2011 to 2017. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada (2017), an Advocatus Emeritus in the Quebec Bar (2013), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (2012), and a Fellow of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation (2008-2011). He took the helm of the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism in August 2015.

“The CHRLP is a driving force in McGill Law’s efforts to bring the world to McGill and to send McGill out into the world,” said Dean Robert Leckey. “I am grateful that the CHRLP will continue to benefit from Professor Crépeau’s leadership.”
