No Peace without Women's Rights - Breaking the Cycle of Conflict in Afghanistan

About the speakers
A Nobel Peace Prize nominee, renowned human rights advocate and an identified global influential female figure, Dr. has dedicated her life to public service, humanitarian work and women’s empowerment. Since 2002 she has been the Chairperson of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) which holds human rights violators accountable and sets the human rights agenda in Afghanistan. Alongside this, Dr. Samar is the Chairperson of the Commission for the Prevention of Torture and was the Chairperson of Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF).
Dr. Sally Armstrong is a human rights activist, journalist and award-winning author. She has covered stories about women and girls in zones of conflict all over the world. From Bosnia and Somalia to the Middle East, Rwanda, Congo, Afghanistan, South Sudan and Iraq, her eyewitness reports have earned her several awards, including the Gold Award from the National Magazine Awards Foundation and the Author's Award from the Foundation for the Advancement of Canadian Letters. She received the Amnesty International Canada Media Award in 2000, 2002, 2011 and again in 2017. She was named the Massey Lecturer for 2019, which were titled Power Shift: The Longest Revolution.
