The McGill Journal of Law and Health (MJLH) is holding its sixth annual colloquium at the Faculty of Law, titledÌýLitigating for health care reform in Canada: How new legal challenges aim to extend Chaoulli’s scope.Ìý
The Colloquium will address legal and policy issues associated with challenges in new cases coming from Alberta and British Columbia aiming to extend the reach of the decision inÌýChaoulli v. Quebec [2005], and how these legal challenges will influence the future of Canada’s public healthcare system.
Panelists including Me. Bruce W. Johnston who represented George Zeliotis in the Chaoulli case, Prof. Alana Klein from McGill’s Faculty of Law, and John Carpay of the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms will discuss whether litigation is an effective forum to influence policy change, and beyond Chaoulli, discuss the impact positive outcomes in the Alberta and British Columbia cases could have on the medical profession and on patients’ rights.
