Legal Education: The "Book to Come" in the Faculties of Law

Friday, September 26, 2014 09:00toSaturday, September 27, 2014 15:30
Chancellor Day Hall 3644 rue Peel, Montreal, QC, H3A 1W9, CA

This transatlantic seminar seeks to start a reflection on books in the context of the study and learning of law. The starting point of this discussion is the idea that a book is a composition that seeks to gather its subject into an intelligible whole, which seems out of step with contemporary modes of writing the law. These modes sometimes seem more appropriate to the complexity of the legal phenomenon as it appears to lawyers and the public. From the outset, questions about the current state and the future of literary forms of law invite us to a broader inquiry that focuses on what a law book really is.
