DCL Research Series - Doing Comparative Law
The fourth event of the DCL Research Series, where students from all levels are welcome, will be a casual and very practical conversation about comparative methodologies in law, led by some experts in the field: Kathy Bellefleur, Adrien Habermacher, Stéphanie Pépin, Christopher Whitehead and Hannah Roggendorf.
Each of these doctoral candidates has extensive theoretical knowledge of the field and will come prepared to share it, but their focus will be on the concrete issues/challenges/questions they faced while doing comparative law, using a combination of civil law, common law and/or indigenous law. These range from finding sources in a jurisdiction or legal system one is less familiar with, to translating them, to finding counterparts to specific legal concepts, to organizing data in their thesis… and to much more!
After very short presentations by each, we will break up into small groups that experts will join in pairs, to continue the conversation. This will be your chance to explore in more depth a topic that was raised, or to propose a new one that is relevant to you. Each group will have the chance to meet with each pair of experts. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to get answers and learn strategies from the best!
