My Neighbour's Faith visit to the Baha'i shrine
Did you know that Montreal is home to the only Baha’i shrine in the Western Hemisphere? Join MORSL for a My Neighbour’s Faith visit to this sacred site, where we’ll discover the Baha’i faith! On Wednesday March 20 – Baha’i Naw Ruz (new year’s eve) – students are invited to the shrine for a tour, a video, and a Q&A. Snacks will be provided! We will meet at 1550 Avenue des Pins West (next door to the shrine) at 5:45pm, and the visit will run until 8pm. Free, but you must register via our online form to participate in this amazing interfaith experience!
This event is part of our My Neighbour’s Faith series, which helps students develop religious literacy by offering trips to various faith centres in Montreal. These visits provide participants with an opportunity to experience diverse traditions firsthand, to learn about a religion from those who practice it, and to build interfaith community connections.
Where:Â 1550 Avenue des Pins West (the reception centre, next door to the shrine)
When:Â Wednesday, March 20, 5:45-8pm
Note about our rendez-vous point and meeting time: We will meet at 1550 Avenue des Pins at 5:45 for sign-in and to enter the shrine as a group. Our visit begins at 6pm. Because March 20th is a special day, and the Shrine has a very strict capacity limit on visitors, please arrive by 5:45 pm so we can enter the Shrine as a group.
About the Baha’i Shrine and Naw Ruz:
This shrine is the only private home in Canada where ‘Abdu’l-Bahá stayed. After His visit, it was always considered blessed for having been used by the Centre of the Covenant, the Greatest Mystery of God. The Montreal Bahá’à Shrine is, therefore, a place of pilgrimage. Not only do the upper floor and the room of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá constitute the Shrine, but the whole building is a historic monument. Even though ‘Abdu’l-Bahá stayed in other homes in Europe and America, the Maxwell home in Montreal is the only official Shrine in the Western Hemisphere – a great honour for Canada and Montreal. We will be visiting on Naw Ruz, which is the eve of the Baha’i new year and the last day of the 19-day fast period.
Bonus: Because this event is part of MORSL's My Neighbour's Faith series, McGill students are eligible for recognition on their co-curricular record! Sign up on our website and we'll submit your details to myInvolvement for recognition on your McGill student co-curricular record after the event concludes.
All of our resources and activities, including our workshops, events, publications, lounge, and meditation space are free of charge and open to all McGill students who pay student services fees.
