Grounded Theory Research in Medical and Health Sciences Education: A Workshop
Grounded theory has become commonplace in health professions education research, but designing and conducting a high-quality grounded theory study can be challenging. In this workshop, we will explore the essential elements of a sound grounded theory study, touching on issues like sampling, coding, iteration, and sufficiency. We will discuss strategies for raising the level of analysis from the categorical to the conceptual. And we will examine some controversies related to the methodology, including the use of sensitizing concepts, the role of a literature review, and the expectations for a “theory” as a product.
