Workshop: To tweet or not to tweet – What value can Twitter hold for Academics?

Facilitator: Dr. Catherine Giroux

During this introductory workshop on Twitter, participants will learn:

  • what Twitter is and how it differs from other similar social networking sites
  • why academics are making use of Twitter
  • what constitutes Twitter etiquette (including tacit norms, hidden curricula or social graces of tweeting)
  • how to set up an account and log in
  • what are common hashtags to use for HPE/HSE research

and will discuss:

  • how to use Twitter to support their research and scholarly needs
  • who we should be following on Twitter
  • how to foster KT of IHSE research and promote our academic community

The workshop is intended to be interactive and informal.
In preparation, please bring a device on which you can access Twitter. A separate device (tablet, phone etc.) may be helpful but you can also access it through a browser in a separate window on your laptop or desktop.

Note that this session is designed for the Twitter novices. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate but if you are already skilled in Twitter, please feel free to use this time for other endeavors.
