Xiaoqian Chai, PhD
Xiaoqian Chai is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, and a Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience.Â
Chai received her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master’s degree in Computer Science at Stanford University. She completed her postdoctoral training at the McGovern Institute for Brain Research at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The long-term goal of Chai’s research program is to understand the relation between brain organization and cognitive development. Her work examines how large-scale brain networks support learning, memory and language.
Chai is particularly interested in the neural developmental processes underlying these cognitive functions from children to adults, and how experience and disease can alter brain organization. Her research methodology includes behavioural, brain imaging (fMRI, resting-state fMRI, DTI) and computational approaches.Â
Blake Richards, PhD
Blake Richards is an Assistant Professor in the Montreal Neurological Institute and the School of Computer Science at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ and a Core Faculty Member at the Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute.
From 2014 to July 2019 he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto in the Department of Biological Sciences (Scarborough) with a cross-appointment to the Department of Cell and Systems Biology and a Faculty Affiliation at the Vector Institute. He was the 2019 Canadian Association for Neuroscience Young Investigator Award Recipient, and one of 29 Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) Canada AI Chairs announced in 2018.
He is also a Fellow of the CIFAR Learning in Machines and Brains Program, and a Lab Scientist with the Creative Destruction Lab.
