Program Description
The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Pathology offered by the Department of Pathology in the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences is a research-intensive program that emphasizes comprehensive and forward-thinking learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in literature review, original thinking, and scientific communication to pursue professional opportunities in academia or industry.
Unique Program Features
- Students benefit from learning cutting-edge techniques and using modern equipment which includes light, fluorescence, and electron microscopy (both transmission and scanning), laser capture, flow cytometry, DNA, Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, protein analysis, cell culture, advanced immunological, pharmacological, biochemical, and physiological techniques, as well as morphometry and computer-aided analysis;
- Faculty members specialize in areas such as: Cancer research, including the fundamental biology of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, brain tumors, soft tissue tumors, and the mechanisms of metastasis; Immunology and transplantation; Autoimmune disorders; Ophthalmic pathology; Stem cell biology; Pulmonary disease; Neurodegenerative disorders; Smooth muscle pathophysiology; and Genomic biology of cancer;
- Graduates pursue careers in industry, academia, government/international agencies, or clinical medicine.
University-Level Admission Requirements
- An eligible Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA
- English-language proficiency
