CHSP 5th Annual Conference: “Our City, Our Health: A Conference on Urbanization and its Health Effects.”
In the past decades, our world has greatly changed. The social force of urbanization has created an environment that is more connected, stratified, and prone to health hazards. The world is flatter than ever: you can wake up in Tokyo and go to bed in San Francisco. During this time, we’ve seen a tremendous advancement in technology and quality of life, however all is not rainbows and sunshine. With metropoles being built and developed all over the globe, health risks can be attributed to an insurgence in the capability of spread of infectious diseases and a continuous increase in air pollution. How have the historical and modern development of cities shaped our health? How has our healthcare system responded to protect us from these changes? And finally, how can we develop clean and sustainable practices to reduce the incidence of diseases within the context of modern urbanization?
