Catherine Hankins
Catherine Hankins MD, PhD, FRCPC, CM. A community medicine specialist, Professor Hankins has scientific interests in COVID-19 immunity, novel biomedical HIV prevention, participatory research conduct, capacity building, scientific knowledge translation, and advancing women in science. She is committed to addressing global health challenges, leading novel research in response to global emergencies, and translating research findings to inform public health policy. She chaired the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership’s Scientific Advisory Committee (2017-2022) and the USA National Institutes of Health HIV Prevention Trials Network Scientific Advisory Group (2012-2021). She co-chaired Canada’s COVID-19 Immunity Task Force (2020-2023). She is an HIV Research Trust trustee and member of the International AIDS Society Industry Liaison Forum. She holds MSc (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine), PhD (University of Amsterdam), and MD (University of Calgary) degrees. She was named to the Order of Canada in 2013 and is a 2024 inductee to Canada’s Medical Hall of Fame.
