The Rosalind and Morris Goodman Cancer Institute (GCI) has the pleasure of welcoming our newÌýDeputy Director, Dr. Trina Johnson.ÌýIn conjunction with the GCI Director,ÌýDr. JohnsonÌýwill develop and implement the strategic plans and business modelÌýfor the GCI. ÌýÌý
Dr. Johnson was selected after a thorough selection process that includedÌýfourÌýGCI investigators as well as other selection committee members from theÌýnewly formed School of Biomedical Sciences (SBMS).ÌýÌý
WithÌýa Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of CalgaryÌýspecializing inÌýpre-clinical drug efficacy studies, neuro-immune pathogenesis and experimental therapies, Dr. Johnson is no stranger toÌýthe world ofÌýresearch.ÌýTrina has firm roots in Montreal,Ìýand has been a research associateÌýwith Dr. Jack Antel and the Associate Director ScientificÌýandÌýOperations with the Experimental TherapeuticsÌýProgram, at The Montreal Neurological Institute (The Neuro). Her functionsÌýatÌýThe NeuroÌýwere to develop and execute strategic business plans and to act as a clinical trial scientific director overseeing large budgets for cross-disciplinaryÌýprojects. Ìý
In 2015, Trina was recruited to Edmonton, Alberta where she first took a position as the Program Manager,Ìýfor the Alberta Clinical Research ConsortiumÌýatÌýAlberta Innovates andÌýthen asÌýthe Provincial Lead for Health Evidence and InnovationÌýatÌýAlberta Health ServicesÌý(AHS). In her position with AHS, Trina executed the implementation of Research as part of the provincial health record, making a patient’sÌýparticipationÌýin researchÌývisibleÌýandÌýinformative at all hospitals in Alberta. During herÌýmandate,ÌýsheÌýmanaged a large team of motivated health experts collaborating with IT, as well as operations,Ìýresearch,Ìýand administrative specialists. Ìý
