JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting directly to the Chair of the Department of Family Medicine as well as the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education, the Director of Undergraduate Education is responsible for all undergraduate teaching activities within the Department of Family Medicine. This individual should have excellent leadership skills, have previous experience in course development and evaluation, and care for the student as a person and a learner. The time commitment is estimated at 1 – 1.5 day/week averaged over the course of the year.
The responsibilities of the Undergraduate Program Director include the following:
- Designing, implementing, evaluating and operating the courses within the Undergraduate Curriculum that are the unique or joint responsibility of the Department of Family Medicine.
- Chairing the Undergraduate Committee and working together with committee members to achieve the departmental goals in this area.
- Recruiting and communicating with teachers for small group sessions in Fundamentals of Medicine & Dentistry, Transition to Clinical Practice, community preceptors and any other course where we may be asked to participate.
- Overseeing all components of the Family Medicine Undergraduate Program (LFME, TCP and Clerkship) as well as debriefing students who return from McGill affiliated rural sites and “Special” sites.
- Evaluating students and maintaining an appeal mechanism in accordance with the regulations established by the University Senate and the Promotion Committee of the Faculty of Medicine.
- Preparing an annual report and other appropriate reports for submission to accrediting bodies.
- Attending Undergraduate meetings as required at the Faculty of Medicine.
- Representing the Undergraduate Division at the Departmental Executive Committee.
- Networking with other Undergraduate Directors provincially and nationally.
- Supporting student initiatives that promote family medicine at the level of the faculty and student body.
- Promoting scholarly work in the area of Undergraduate Education.
